About The Project
At the heart of the new Maidenhill development and built by BAM Construction, sits this multi award winning school, home to over 400 pupils plus a nursery for 120 children.
Designed by BDP to offer a calming learning environment for a range of students, it features two floors of accommodation around a central courtyard to exploit natural light and a connection with the outdoors. As part of this design strategy a number of areas take advantage of window controls to provide fresh air and natural ventilation to the stairwells, nursery, atrium and dining hall areas, as well as smoke ventilation functionality for the safety of occupants in the event of a fire. In double height spaces windows at high and low level were employed to enable ventilation using the stack effect to achieve better levels of comfort and air quality.
Provision of the smoke ventilation and comfort control system by Kilpatrick Blane Services helped to ensure a quality installation that would fulfil the award winning aspirations of the project and serve the school and pupils with safe passage, fresh air and great learning environments for years to come.
